An adventure tour of South America can consist of almost anything. The fact that this ancient civilization is much harder to get around than the western world, makes any kind of travelling here an adventure.

You can choose to combine visiting fabulous historic colonial cities with some relaxing time on the stunning beaches, or choose a real adventure where you trek to
Machu Picchu, visit the Galapagos by fishing boat or take a dug-out canoe up the Amazon.

No matter which way you choose to travel in South America you can guarantee that it will be an adventure like nothing else on earth. The warm hospitality of the South Americans, the lively nightlife, the exotic culture, the spectacular scenery and the great food will make a trip to this continent an unforgettable one, and each of the countries have their own attractions.

Argentina offers the incredible Iguau Falls in the north, the pampas and land of the gauchos in the middle of the country, the stunning wild landscapes of Patagonia including Mount Fitzroy in the south, and at its very tip, the haunting region of Tierra del Fuego. It also offers Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak outside the Himalayas, and some superb vineyards.

Brazil borders Iguau Falls to the south and has the vibrant buzz of the most stunning city on earth in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil is well known for its beautiful beaches, but it is also home to the largest part of the Amazon River and Rainforest with its wealth of flora and fauna. Riverboats sail the waters of this fascinating wilderness.

Chile is not only the longest country in the world, but one of the most interesting. Lying between the Andes, the world`s driest desert and the Pacific Ocean, Chile has a charm of its own, not to mention the beautiful region of Patagonia in the south. Set at the ankles of the Andes, Chile has the largest ski area in South America and also offers thrilling boating, rafting, trekking, paragliding and climbing.

Bolivia has a diverse landscape incorporating highland plains, icy mountains, steaming tropical lowlands and shimmering salt flats, not to mention the dramatic city of La Paz sitting at an altitude of over 3500m. Colombia is one of South America`s best kept secrets, oozing with the old Spanish colonial charm and both Caribbean and Pacific Ocean views. Explore Cartagena, the ancient walled city which was once a pirate stronghold and try the local rum.

Ecuador is packed with colonial cities, towering peaks and dense rainforest, but is perhaps best known for being home to the most impressive wildlife sanctuary on earth, The Galapagos Islands. These islands are a paradise for nature lovers and home to a unique selection of wildlife.

Peru offers jungle, desert and mountains, but Peru is probably best known for the remains from the Inca civilization. You can hike the Inca Trail to the majestic Lost Cities of the Incas, Machu Picchu, hidden in dense Amazonian jungle more than 2,300 m (7000 feet) above sea level. This ancient road treks 40 km (25 miles) from Cuzco through deep Andean gullies and is not for the faint-hearted. Climb up to overlook the ruins and the valley from Huayna Pichu Mountain. Also visit the Nazca Lines etched on the desert floor or sail on Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.
