Argentina

With 4.2 million tourists annually, Argentina rank as number 43 in the world of countries with most international tourist arrivals.

Argentina, officially the Argentine Republic, is constituted as a federation of twenty-three provinces and an autonomous city (Buenos Aires). It is second in size, after Brazil, in South America and eight in the world. The population in 2008 is 40.7 million (estimate) and the biggest town is the capital, Buenos Aires, which, with a population of 12.4 million in Greater Buenos Aires, makes it one of the largest conurbations in the world.

Buenos Aires, is a city of multiple contrasts, presenting a conglomeration of exotic food, wine and architectural styles. To the tourists, the city seems and feels to be like in Europe.

Among the tourist attractions, Argentina has the incredible Iguazu Falls to the north, the land of the gauchos in the Pampas mid-country, the stunning wild landscapes of Patagonia including Mount Fitzroy to the south and at its very tip, the evocative region of Tierra del Fuego. It also contains Mount Aconcagua in the Andes, the highest peak outside the Himalayas, and some superb vineyards.

The Atlantic coast is full of holiday resorts where Argentines, especially the people from Buenos Aires, like to spend the summer.

Because of longitudinal and elevation amplitudes, Argentina is subject to a variety of climates. As a rule, the climate is predominantly temperate with extremes ranging from subtropical in the north to subpolar in the far south. The north of the country is characterized by very hot, humid summers with mild drier winters, and is subject to periodic droughts. Central Argentina has hot summers with thunderstorms (in western Argentina producing some of the worlds largest hail), and cool winters. The southern regions have warm summers and cold winters with heavy snowfall, especially in mountainous zones.
