São Paulo is the main reference for Brazilian golf. São Paulo has more golf clubs and players than the rest of Brazil put together. The number of Brazillian golf courses is increasing rapidly and there are now over 100 golf courses in Brazil.
Compared with other places in the world this number is not great, but 10 years ago it was less than half the number and some of the places in Brazil where you can play golf are quite unique. At Manaus you can play golf in the middle of the Amazon basin, and the phenomenal Iguazu Waterfalls, the local Bourbon Iguazu Golf Resort has excellent greens.
Rio de Janeiro has several top greens not far from its southern beaches, and just some minutes away from Copacabana or Ipanema. About an hours drive from Rio you can find golf courses in Buzios, and in the opposite direction, in Angra dos Reis there is a luxury resort, with great greens and connected to a top local hotel, Hotel do Frade Golf and Resort.
Much more to the south, there are the Florianopolis greens. Florianopolis is known as a top international place for sea sports, but it also has excellent golf greens and clubs. In Bahia, a north eastern state of Brazil, well known for its long coast with hundreds of beaches, there are also a number of good golf courses.
